Boston beckons....a fun start to start your boating!
The first BYC mini-cruise is slated for June 8 & 9 to our own beloved Boston. It's a short hop to Boston Harbor and a great way to get your boat in crusing shape for the summer. We will rendezvous at Charlestown's Constitution Marina. Plans in the works include a trip through the locks and up the scenic Charles River on Commodore Barnet's gorgeous boat, Nun Left. Later the gang will gather for a cocktail get-together before heading off to one of the many excellent restaurants nearby. We will provide lots of info on things to do nearby, restaurants, and even a bit of lore on the Boston Harbor islands.
Our two-step sign up couldn't be easier--Email Jennifer Flanagan (floplace@comcast.net) to let her know you are joining the fun. Then call Sebastian, the assistant dockmaster at Consitution Marina, for your slip and mention you are with the BYC mini-cruise (phone is 617/241-9640 and web site is http://www.constitutionmarina.com)

The USCG is asking for public comments regarding the gong on Tinkers Rock Gong Buoy (LLNR 10410). In a recent issue of the Local Notice to Mariners:
(http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/pdf/lnms/lnm01192013.pdf) the US Coast Guard has asked all local mariners to comment on the potential removal of the gong from Tinkers Rock Gong Buoy. The Coast Guard regularly reviews the need for audio signals on aids to navigation and the Tinkers Rock Gong Buoy is currently scheduled to be reviewed and possibly replaced with a newer buoy. As part of that review and replacement process, the USCG is asking local mariners to comment on whether they see a continued need for an audible signal on this particular buoy. Unless the USCG receives a sufficient number of objections, they will be replacing the buoy at Tinkers Rock with one that has no more gong, i.e. no audible signal. This is the text from the Local Notice to Mariners: |

MA-SALEM AND LYNN HARBORS-MARBLEHEAD CHANNELThe Coast Guard is considering making the following change to this waterway;Tinkers Rock Gong Buoy TR (LLNR 10410): REMOVE gong and RENAME to Tinkers Rock Buoy TR (LLNR 10410).Interested Mariners are strongly encouraged to comment on this proposal in writing, either personally or through your organization. All comments will be carefully considered and are requested by 20 May 2013. To facilitate the process, refer to the Project Number 01-13-063 for easier identification. In addition to the address listed on the front cover, e-mails can be sent to mark.e.ferreira@uscg.mil and faxes to 617-223-8291.
